The Surat Basin Rail Joint Venture was awarded an unconditional Exclusive Mandate by the Queensland Government in July 2007 to investigate the development of an open-access rail link through the Surat Coal Basin from Toowoomba to Gladstone.
The joint venture has been investigating the feasibility and bankability of developing the railway since mid 2007 and is working towards a construction timeline to match industry demands.
The joint venture is an example of how the private sector and the Government can work together to deliver major infrastructure.
